Wood betony is a valuable remedy for headaches and facial pain as well as for nervous stress and tension. It is thought to improve nervous function and to counter overactivity. Betony stimulates the digestive system and liver, and has an overall tonic action on the body.
The plant can be used in conjunction with other herbs such as comfrey and lime flowers, where its astringent properties may be useful for sinus headaches and congestion.
Betony may also be taken alone or together with yarrow to help staunch nosebleeds.
